How these 10 mile times are worked out
Every time in the table comes from the WMA/USATF 2025 road age-grading tables, approved by the USATF Masters Long Distance Running Council in January 2025. A percentage grade compares your time with the tables' standard for your age and sex. The 100% mark is the open-class standard, 43:15 for men and 47:12 for women, and the time at any grade is the age standard divided by the grade.
These are targets by age, not averages of real finishers: each row shows what a level looks like at that age, not what most 10 mile runners record. The same tables power the RunReps age-grade calculator and the RunReps Score.
What's a good time for a 10 mile run?
A good time for a 10 mile run at age 25 is 1:12:05 for men and 1:18:40 for women, a 60% age-graded time, the level the RunReps Age-Grade Calculator calls club level on the WMA 2025 road tables. That works out at 7:13 min/mile for men and 7:52 min/mile for women.
Each column has a name: after the unnamed 50% column come 60% club level, 70% regional class and 80% national class, with 90% or more world class. At the top, the tables' 100% mark is 43:15 for men and 47:12 for women.
For the pace behind any finish time, see the 10 mile pace chart.
Why is there no published average 10 mile time?
There is no published average 10 mile time because no large study publishes one, so RunReps uses the WMA/USATF 2025 road age-grading tables instead: at 40, 60% club level is 1:14:48 for men and 1:21:52 for women.
The large result studies RunReps cites, Brian Rock's at Outside Run and RunRepeat's, cover the 5K, 10K, half marathon, marathon and mile, not the 10 mile. If you searched for the average 10 mile run time by age, age grading is the honest substitute: the table gives the time that scores each grade at every age from 20 to 80.
For a sourced average at the nearest longer distance, see the average half marathon time.
How does 10 mile pace compare with half marathon pace?
At the same 60% club-level grade, 10 mile pace is only 6 to 8 seconds a mile quicker than half marathon pace: at 40 it is 7:29 min/mile for 10 miles against 7:35 for the half for men, and 8:11 against 8:19 for women.
That makes a 10 mile race a useful half marathon rehearsal: 1:14:48 for a man of 40 sits at the same grade as a 1:39:28 half, and 1:21:52 for a woman of 40 matches 1:49:08.
From a shorter race, a 50:00 10K predicts about 1:22:48 for 10 miles using Riegel's formula, the 10K time multiplied by the distance ratio raised to the power 1.06.
What is a good 10 mile time for a woman?
A good 10 mile time for a woman aged 45 is 1:25:03, a 60% age-graded time, the level the RunReps Age-Grade Calculator calls club level on the WMA 2025 road tables, which works out at 8:30 min/mile.
At 35 the same grade is 1:19:51, and at 55 it is 1:35:09. Regional class at 45 is 1:12:54, and national class is 1:03:47.
Age lifts the grade quickly: 1:30:00 scores 52.4% for a woman aged 25, past a 50% age grade, and 72.4%, regional class, at 65.
Can I run 10 miles in 1 hour?
Running 10 miles in 1 hour is possible but demanding: on the WMA 2025 road tables a 1:00:00 run scores 72.1% for a man aged 25 and 78.7% for a woman aged 25, both regional class, well beyond club level.
National class at 25 needs 54:04 for men and 59:00 for women, and the tables' 100% mark is 43:15 and 47:12. With age the same hour grades higher: 84.9%, national class, for a man aged 55 and 95.1%, world class, for a woman aged 55.
If you race 10K, the race time predictor shows what that time suggests for a half marathon, the next step beyond 10 miles.
How long does a 10 mile run take?
At Strava's 2024 median training pace of 10:15 min/mile, a 10 mile run takes about 1:42:30. As a race, a 50% age grade at 25 is 1:26:30 for men and 1:34:24 for women on the WMA 2025 road tables, and 60% club level is 1:12:05 and 1:18:40.
At an easier effort, 1:45:00 scores 41.2% for a man aged 25 and 45.0% for a woman aged 25. To set the pace for your own target time, use the pace calculator.
