Age-grading uses World Athletics age factors — performance coefficients for each age group — to convert your actual time to an equivalent time for an open-category runner. A score above 60% is a good club-level performance. Above 80% is elite.
Frequently asked questions
What is age-grading?
Age-grading adjusts your race time to account for how physiological performance changes with age. It lets you compare performances across different age groups on a fair basis — and compare your own performances over time.
What is a good age-grade score?
40–59%: local club level. 60–79%: regional or national level. 80–89%: world-class. 90%+: world record equivalent level. Most recreational runners score between 40% and 65%.
Do age-grade factors change over time?
Yes — World Athletics periodically updates the age factors as world records are broken. The factors used here are based on the current World Athletics tables.
