How these 10K times are worked out
These 10K times come from the WMA/USATF 2025 road age-grading tables, approved by the USATF Masters Long Distance Running Council in January 2025. A percentage grade measures your time against the standard for your age and sex: 100% matches it, and 60% means you are running at 60% of its speed. The tables' 100% mark for 10K is 26:24 for men and 28:46 for women, each age has its own standard, and the time at any grade is the age standard divided by the grade.
Every figure is a target by age, not an average of real finishers. To grade your own 10K the same way, use the age-grade calculator.
What is a respectable 10K time?
A respectable 10K time beats the 1:02:08 median in RunRepeat's percentile data, and a good target for your age is a 60% age-graded time, the level the RunReps Age-Grade Calculator calls club level on the WMA 2025 road tables: at 25, 44:00 for men and 47:57 for women.
Each grade has a name: 60% is club level, 70% regional class, 80% national class and 90% world class. The 50% column has no name of its own. At the very top, the tables' 100% mark is 26:24 for men and 28:46 for women, close to the world records.
If you have only raced shorter, the race time predictor estimates a 10K from your 5K before you compare.
What is a good 10K time by age?
A good 10K time by age, at the 60% club-level grade on the WMA 2025 tables, slows from 45:40 at 40 to 54:05 at 60 for men, and from 49:49 to 1:01:15 for women.
As a pace, club level at 45 is 4:45 min/km (7:39 min/mile) for men and 5:10 min/km (8:19 min/mile) for women. The 10K pace chart lists the pace for other finish times.
What is the average 10K time for women?
The average 10K time for women, measured as the median, is 1:06:54 across two decades of results in RunRepeat's percentile data, against 57:15 for men and 1:02:08 overall.
Age grading gives a yardstick that allows for age: a woman of 35 needs 48:38 for a 60% club-level time and 41:41 for 70% regional class.
Why do average 10K times disagree?
Average 10K times disagree because each one describes a different group of runners: RunRepeat's 1:02:08 median covers 35 million results from more than 28,000 races across two decades, while a figure from one year, one country or one race series covers far fewer.
The measure matters as well. A median is the middle result, so half of RunRepeat's 10K results were faster than 1:02:08, while a mean can be dragged slower by the longest finishes.
The age-graded times are a third kind of number: WMA 2025 targets, not finishers, so they never move with who turns up. The average 5K time puts two real crowds side by side.
Is a 50 minute 10K good?
A 50 minute 10K is a good, club-level time for a man of 55 or a woman of 45, grading 62.0% for both on the WMA 2025 tables, and it beats the 57:15 men's median in RunRepeat's data.
At 25 it grades 52.8% for men and 57.5% for women, between a 50% and a 60% age grade. Club level at that age is 44:00 for men and 47:57 for women, and the running plan generator builds the weeks to get there.
Is a 1 hour 10K good?
A 1 hour 10K is a solid result: it is faster than the 1:02:08 median across two decades of results in RunRepeat's percentile data, which puts it in the faster half of 10K results.
How hard it is depends on who runs it: 1:00:00 grades 44.0% for a man of 25 but 65.4% for a woman of 65, club level. For a new runner, getting under the 1:02:08 median is a fair first target.
