The Hyrox race features 8 rounds, each beginning with a 1km run. While the competition may seem intimidating, just how tough is it compared to other athletic events?
Hyrox vs. Running Races
Hyrox includes 8km of running in total, but unlike straightforward endurance races like a 10km, half-marathon, or marathon, Hyrox breaks the distance into rounds designed to test both cardiovascular and muscular endurance. These rounds also incorporate other exercises like sled pushes, burpee broad jumps, and more.
Hyrox vs. CrossFit
Though often compared to CrossFit, Hyrox differs in its structure. CrossFit typically requires completing various exercises within a fixed time, while Hyrox is based on finishing a set sequence of exercises as quickly as possible. Additionally, Hyrox focuses on functional, everyday movements that many find more accessible than some complex CrossFit exercises.
Hyrox Categories
The difficulty of the Hyrox race varies depending on the specific category a participant chooses.
- Hyrox Singles
The Singles event is ideal for beginners. It offers a challenge but without the added weight load featured in the Pro category. - Hyrox Doubles
Similar to Singles, but completed with a partner, the Doubles category splits the race in half. Each participant completes 4km of running and 4 rounds of exercises, with the flexibility to divide tasks based on strengths. - Hyrox Pro
Hyrox Pro is the most challenging category, recommended for those with prior Hyrox experience. It includes additional weight to raise the intensity and test endurance.
