Draw two cards to generate a random workout. The first card determines your run type (suit) and distance (value). The second card sets the number of sets.
Card value (A=1, 2–10, J=11, Q=12, K=13) equals distance in kilometres. The second card's value equals the number of sets.

How the Deck Workout Generator works
A standard 52-card deck is shuffled. Draw two cards: the first card's suit determines whether you run intervals (clubs), fartlek (diamonds), tempo (hearts), or easy (spades). The card's face value (Ace = 1 km through King = 13 km) sets the total distance. The second card's value decides how many sets to split the distance into. Your workout is ready - no planning required. Each workout gets a difficulty rating and is saved to your session history so you can compare draws.
Frequently asked questions
How does the deck decide my run type?
Each suit maps to a run type: clubs = interval, diamonds = fartlek, hearts = tempo, spades = easy/recovery. Drawing a heart means you run at tempo pace, for example.
What do face cards mean for distance?
Ace equals 1 km. Number cards equal their face value. Jack = 11 km, Queen = 12 km, King = 13 km. The second card uses the same values for the number of sets.
Can I reshuffle mid-session?
Yes. Hit the reshuffle button at any time to reset all 52 cards and start fresh.
Is the deck workout suitable for beginners?
Absolutely. Lower cards produce shorter, easier sessions. If you draw a high card and the workout feels too ambitious, simply clear and draw again.
Can I use a real deck of cards instead?
Of course. The mapping is simple: clubs = intervals, diamonds = fartlek, hearts = tempo, spades = easy. Card value equals distance in kilometres. Draw two cards and apply the same rules.
How long will a full 52-card session take?
Drawing all 26 pairs would generate a massive workout - it is not intended for a single session. Most runners draw 2–4 workouts per session and pick their favourite, or stack 2–3 into a combined training day.
What if I draw a King for sets - is 13 sets realistic?
For a short distance card (Ace or 2), 13 very short sets can be a fun sprint workout. For longer distances, 13 sets is extreme - clear and draw again if it does not suit your fitness level.
How is the difficulty rating calculated?
Difficulty combines total distance, number of sets, and run type intensity. Intervals and tempo score higher than easy runs. The result is rated Easy, Moderate, Hard, or Brutal so you can judge the workout at a glance.
